The fight to protect Nipomo from irresponsible urban sprawl and environmental devastation is not over.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

OUR LAWSUIT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 28, 2024, the Nipomo Action Committee and the California Native Plant Society, SLO Chapter filed a lawsuit against the Dana Reserve, the San Luis Obispo County, and the Board of Supervisors citing that the Dana Reserve project would burden local resources and local emergency services such as Cal Fire and SLO Co. Sheriff. The lawsuit also states that the Dana Reserve project would result in 19 unavoidable and significant impacts. It also contends that the DR project failed to identify adequate mitigation, and it violated the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December 2024, a second lawsuit was filed by the same nonprofit organizations against the Local Area Formation Commission (LAFCO) for failing to properly assess the Nipomo Community Services District’s (NCSD) ability to supply water to the proposed project, as required by law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OUR CONCERNS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Nipomo Action Committee understands the need for housing, and we especially appreciate the need for truly affordable housing, the Dana Reserve project is not the solution–its contribution to solving the affordable housing crisis is minimal at best. Balancing the need for housing while protecting our natural resources and preventing urban sprawl is essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our ongoing campaign to raise funds for this fight and our lawsuit remains a top priority for the Nipomo Action Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
